Week 3. Roles distribution
ROLES DISTRIBUTION THIS WEEK:
Task 2 (TH: Cartographic Projections). Grades of my classmates
Hi everybody!
I´m Ana, the analyst, and I´m going to write about how all the groups did their
expositions based on the Busy Bees point of view.
GROUP 1: composed
by “The PowerPuff Teachers”, “SevenUp” and “It´sChOOL. This group was not very
coordinated. The starts repeated the information related to the three kinds of projections,
that was a bit boring, in spite of that, it was appreciate that almost the
stars prepared the exposition. It´s difficult to coordinate and change all the
exposition that they had prepared before, so don´t worry about this exposition.
Next time it would be better!
GROUP 2:
composed by “Power Teachers”, “Platypus” and “Meerkats”. This was the best
group in our point of view, they were very coordinated, and achieved divide and
expose all the information that was required. All of the stars did a good work.
Congratulations!
GROUP 3:
composed by “Keep Calm and Keep organized”, “Los Umpalumpas” and finally the “Busy
Bees”. There was some problems due to our murals, sorry about that, although
the exposition was coordinated. The other stars did a good work during the
exposition, thanks you for your work and help doing the exposition.
Hello I am Ainhoa and I am the Journalist. Here you can see the picture of my classmates' expositions.

Task 2 (TH: Cartographic Projections). Analyst
I´m Ana, the analyst of this week!! As all the analysts have to do, I
have answered all the questions that the teacher provided us to reflex about
this task.
So, let´s start with them!
First of all, I think that the best part of the activity was
doing the different murals that we prepared for the exposition. We spent a lot
of time doing all of them, but I think that almost all the members love
painting, drawing… so we enjoyed a lot doing them. Also we are very proud of
the result, so although we enjoyed doing them we didn´t neglect the result.
About the common question of what was the best moment of the week I have to explain that it´s a difficult question, all the moments spent doing the work was much enjoyed, but maybe when we finished the work. It sounds very strange, but when you see your work finished you feel a sense of relief and can appreciate that all of your effort is not for nothing.
In contrast, I think that the worst moment of the week were two: first, the beginning of the work. It´s
difficult start something since zero, so we had to agree in how does the work
and being eight persons in the group is a bit difficult. After that moment it
was easier continue the work.
And finally, the exposition, be sure of that. When all the members of
the group saw when at the beginning of the exposition the star broken the
plasticine of the country Canada we knew that the exposition would be a
disaster. We were on the right way. She was so nervous and finally she read almost
all the information. We did a bad exposition again! We have to improve it
immediately.
Although we weren´t aware about it at the beggining of the activity, we have learnt a lot with this activity, for
example, we have learnt what is a Treasure Hunt, a funny game that we would use
in the future with our students to help them to learn enjoying.
Also
about Cartographic projections, that is that there are different kinds of
projections, and all of them with some distortions, in other words, we have to
control what materials we will use in class in order to improve our students
knowledge without altering their perception of the word creating some erroneous
beliefs (in this example is that one country is higher in size than other due
to its representation in the map, although this representation is erroneous).
Finally, the part of “Media are not neutral”
refers to the idea that the teacher behaviour, material, etc influence on
children, for example, many children beliefs that a real star have five points,
and that is due to the usual erroneous reproduction of a star with this form.
In conclusion, we have to be awareness about
what behaviour, material... are correct, and mitigate the erroneous children´s
perception of the world, for example explaining that a star is spherical or the
real size of the countries.
As conclusion:
Normally, some groups have to conserve some
values or positions for their next works, however the Busy Bees functioned very
well during this task, so I think that we have to conserve the same positivism
and gains to work for the next weeks. Congratulations for all my colleagues and
Busy Bees (;
Our group have to improve the compatibility between our
timetables. It´s difficult find moments to do the activity in which all the
members are present. We chose the Friday as the perfect day to accomplish it,
but we need more time to do the activity, so, many times the same members do
more work than others.
In
addition, the major necessity to improve is our expositions, we tried to
improve the exposition this week, but we did not achieve it. I think that we
have to make aware the stars about their responsibility on the expositions...
The next week we will improve it!!
This content t is connected in
many aspects with our course and dregree, in all the subjects the teacher and materials would transmits
some values that we consider as true but there isn´t. Also, some subjects such
as Planning, gives importance to this fact, explaining that the media are not
neutral.
Our degree is to be teachers, so it´s very
important be aware of these facts, preventing it in the future.
Also, in many cartoons TV series the stars are
represented with the form of five points, or the heart by the common form
of <3
instead of their real forms.
Finally, the cartographic projections are
related to how the media (news, magazines...) alter the reality into what they
want, provoking false beliefs (this is very common in political and economical
cases).
I hope do not be so boring commenting these questions.
XO XO, Busy Bees.
Task 2 (TH: Cartographic Projections). Journalist.
Hello my busy bees!
I am Ainhoa and during this week I have been the JOURNALIST of the group. At first I don't like this role because I don't like take photos but I have enjoyed a lot.
This week The Busy Bees had to investigated about three kinds of cartographic projections from three different authors: Robinson, Mercator and Azimuthal. Then we had to choose the best for teaching at school so we chose Robinson's projection because we considered that is the more adequate for the children because only distorted the Poles.
During Monday and Tuesday we divided the information to do a good search. On Wednesday we went to Luis Vives and we started to do the map and decorated it. I have to say that it was very funny! Also, we chose the topic about the media and an example for it and the two countries to do the comparison. At first we draw the maps and we filled them with plasticine, we chose two different colors to differentiate the countries that we had chosen of the rest of the world. Then we drew the two countries chosen in “goma-Eva” and we covered them with plasticine. For represent the example of the media we decided to do a mockup of the space in which the Sun and The Earth can be appreciated with the starts in the background. There you can appreciate the difference between the shape from a real star and the shape from a false star. Also we used an example about Disney's princess to show how the stereotypes can influence the children's behavior.
At the exposition’s day we were very nervous. At first we thought that we was very prepared because we worked a lot and search a lot of the information, but when we started the Star got nervous and began to read the paper when the information. Also the maps fallen from the cardboard and everything was a disaster.
This week we have had some mistakes but next week we will do it perfect!
Zzzzzzzzze you soon!

Task 2 (TH: Cartographic Projections). Facilitator
Hello, I´m Bernabe and this week I
have been the facilitator. It was hard and stressful because I have had to coordinate and organize the work of
every member in the group and I tried to do it as well as possible.
This second task is about
"Treasure Hunt: cartographic projections". To do this activity, first
of all I organized the information that each member of the group had to search
to do this task. After that, we met and collect the information.Furthermore we
started to do the projections in a cardboard and I distributed the work in this
way: Miriam,Yolanda, María José and Ana designed the maps and did the
comparisons of two countries (Canada and Turkey) taking into account the
different projections(Robinson,Mercator and Azimuthal). The rest of the group (Maria,
Gracia, Ainhoa and me) did the other parts of the work: media determine the
vision of something and an example of treasure hunt.We met various days to
finish it and when we had all of the work concluded we did a reflection about the
relationship between this task and the slogan “Media are not neutral”.
To sum up, I can say that working as
facilitator has been a
good experience in which I have learnt how the group has to work and the
weaknesses that we have to improve next time.
Task 2 (TH: Cartographic Projections). Star
Hello, my name is
Yolanda and I’m the Star this week :)
This week, I had to explain the different
Cartographic Projections and the effect of the Media in the perception of the
reality. During this week I have felt very nervous although we have been
working very hard!!
After the exposition I had to explain that it
was very difficult for me the role of the star because of I´m a nervous person.
The presentation was a disaster… One part of the main mural fell down to the
ground at the beginning of the exposition, so my colleague Bernabé had to help
me to hold it up. This fact altered me, because I became more nervous and my
mind went blank so I guessed that I would forget some information that I should
said, for that reason I decided to read all the information….
Perhaps another factor that would have
influenced me, is the change of the tactic, because at the exposition I have to exposed
with my colleagues of other groups, those are the stars of the groups 3 (“Keep
Calm and Keep Organized”) and 6 (“Umpalumpas”). Also we had thirty minutes to
mix our information, and doing another exposition to expose in 8 minutes. It was a good experience to work with them, but I think it would be better if we would have more time. I want to congratulate them, because they have done a good work. It was a pleasure to work with them!!
The Three Stars: Clara, Mº Cruz and Me (Yolanda).
Personally, It was a bad experience, but I
think it could be something constructive for me…. It can help me to improve my
weaknesses (nerves, worry, and insecurity). And I hope the next time, it will
be better, because I´m sure that we will work very hard!
Here you have the
information that we have prepared for the exposition!
In this exposition we are going to talk about cartographic projections.First of all, taking into account the caracteristics of the different projections(Robinson,Mercator and Azimuthal) we are going to compare two selected countries(Canada and Turkey) .Furthermore we are going to choose one of the projections that we would use in the classroom.
Secondly,we are going to focus on the media and how it can determine the vision of students in the majority of things, also we are gonig to explain the relationship between this task and the slogan "media are not neutral" and finally we are going to give you another example of treasure hunt.
