Task 0. Illustrating Words

Hi everyone!
The previous Monday (2sd of February) the Busy Bees and the rest of the class realized an activity, proposed by our School Organization and Educational Resources teacher, which consisted in represent some words with drawings. She gives three words to each group written in a piece of paper, each group had to express the words drawing how they interpret them. Later, the teacher collected the draws and shared out three draws to each group, with all the words and some extra words written on the blackboard, each group had to guess what is the drawing meaning.

-Have you had any problem illustrating the concepts?
Firstly, we had difficulties to understand the meaning of some words, and then we had to look for them in the translator. We had problems because each member thought on a different concept of each word so we agreed the drawings and we had no major problems. At first, Miriam started drawing, because she do it very well, but she did not do all the work, the rest of us handed out the other words and we started to draw.
It was fun to play this game and we discussed it with the other groups.

Tactics

- How it is easier to know what is the concept, with a drawing? Or with a picture?
It was not very easy, because we had different concepts in relation with the ones of the other groups. We hit two of the three pictures, but in our point of view, the picture we did not hit was due to it has no correlation with the concept that they wanted to represent.
- Messages in illustrations help to clarify the concept?
Lots of pictures didn't have relation with the concept that they wanted to represent. But it is true that understanding one concept with a drawing is easier that with a word, because it is more representative.
- Why do you think the other group have had problems to guess the Word?
We think that the other groups did not have problems to guess the words that we represent in our pictures because they did it very well. In conclusion we can say that we are good artists.

REFLECTION
The Busy Bees think that this activity is so important even though some people could think that it was a stupid and very easy activity. When we talked about how represent each word we realized that each member of the group interpret each word in a different way, for example, the word “future” for some members was live in the space or another planet and for the others the presence of flying cars and very advances technologies.

 Future

Soon we agreement about how represent each word, maybe, it was our strengths, the facility to reach an agreement among all the members of the group, however, in contrast our weakness was that we could not understand very well what represent the draws of the others groups, and we differ interpreting those draws, for example, we can allude to a specific draw in which we can appreciate a boy and girl in love, and then the girl takes up with other boy so the first boy is very sad. Some of us related the draw with the word “indignantly”, but finally it was another word “stagnant”.

Stagnant

We think this activity was very interesting because it help us to reflect and to realize about the importance of expressing well that you want to think. Everyone interprets the draws in a different way. To sum up, we can say that everyone have a different way of interpret the reality but it doesn’t mean that one is better than the others. So with this activity we have learned that each of us has different perspectives in order to interpret the drawings and it was useful to learn new vocabulary too.
